Hello, my name is Freya and this is my apprenticeship journey!
I began looking for an apprenticeship in May 2021 as soon as I left secondary school. I didn’t know what I wanted to do other than be in an admin/office based role. I came across Indigo Greens on Facebook who had just posted an advert looking for their next apprentice, the company’s branding is what drew me in and after looking into the business and researching it a bit more, I sent over my CV and was lucky enough to be offered an interview and subsequently the role as Junior Estate Agent Apprentice.
I was 16 when I started my apprenticeship with Indigo Greens and now 17, turning 18 in a few months. It has been an amazing experience coming into the business world. I knew I had a lot of learning to do when starting the apprenticeship and I was more than ready to begin learning. The team are amazing, teaching me all the little tricks of the trade and supporting each other when needed.
I started my learning with Babington College to gain my Level 2 Estate Agency qualification. It was strange to do ‘school work’ and work at the same time but I soon adjusted. I enjoyed this part of learning as it was helpful and made me use what I have learnt with my on the job training. I had a tutor who I would arrange monthly zoom calls with and then when they thought I was ready they would put me forward to do my end point assessment!
Coming into a new environment has meant I’ve had to mature and this has also required a bit of patience, but, I think I have come a long way since the beginning of my apprenticeship and want to keep learning and progressing as I continue my journey in estate agency. Without the team supporting me I wouldn’t have made it to where I am now as I approach the end of my apprenticeship. Libby and Izzy have been a massive help in preparing for my End Point Assessment, as they have been through it before me and know how I would be feeling going into my assessment.
During my apprenticeship I have really enjoyed interacting with clients, doing viewings, being in the office, and sitting in the progression meetings. Going out around my local area with Simon and investigating property defects, will always be a memory in my apprenticeship, then coming back into the office and being quizzed by Emma!
The apprenticeship route was definitely the best option for me and for what I wanted to do after school, joining the working adult world has been a journey but it has been so worth it. I am excited to show off my skills in my End Point Assessment in January and hopefully gain a distinction qualification.
I personally would always recommend getting an apprenticeship once you’ve finished secondary school, learning and gaining work experience all in one is a great life skill to have and it has definitely taught me a lot of things. I am very proud of what I have achieved in the last year and a bit, and I couldn’t thank the team enough for all the support with my journey.
